کتاب Good People اثر پتمینا سابیت داستان ادبی که با ساختاری نوآورانه از زبان راویان متعدد روایت میشود و تصویر چندوجهی از یک خانوادهٔ مهاجر را در آمریکا ارائه میدهد. داستان حول خانوادهٔ شراف میچرخد؛ پدر و مادر افغان که در دههٔ ۱۹۹۰ از افغانستان به آمریکا پناهنده میشوند و پس از سالها تلاش به موفقیت مالی و زندگی مرفه دست مییابند، اما زمانی که دختر ارشدشان، زوره، در یک حادثهٔ غمانگیز جانش را از دست میدهد، این «زندگی موفق» زیر ذرهبین جامعه و افکار عمومی قرار میگیرد. افراد مختلف – از دوستان و همسایگان گرفته تا معلمان و رسانهها – هر یک نسخهای متفاوت از حقیقت ارائه میدهند و خواننده را وادار میکنند میان شنیدهها و برداشتها تفاوت قائل شود. روایت پلمیک و جذاب این رمان، پرسشهایی عمیق دربارهٔ هویت، قضاوت، فرهنگ و واقعیت زندگی خانوادههای مهاجر مطرح میکند و فراتر از یک راز خانوادگی، تصویری انسانی و پیچیده از جامعهٔ معاصر آمریکا ترسیم میکند.
